Halloween sweets without putting weight back on
A sweet is for savouring. A whole bag is for enduring.
A bag of sweets at home, at work or after the children’s trick or treating tests any adult who is rebalancing their eating. We help you stay in control without banning anything.
Halloween is also the start of a sensitive period. Between late October and early January, the occasions to eat more than usual follow one another, from Bonfire Night to the Christmas parties. It is better to set pointers now than to catch up afterwards.
A free assessment before the festive season gives a clear starting point. You see where you stand and you keep what you have achieved rather than starting again in January.
3 tips for the sweets
No need to throw everything away.
Set a portion
A few sweets after a meal, not all day long.
Put the rest away
A bag out of sight, in a cupboard, is less tempting.
Eat before you go out
A proper meal before trick or treating stops you snacking on the way.

Your questions about Halloween and weight
Should sweets be banned at home?
No. Banning makes you want them more. We prefer to set a portion and put the rest away.
How do I avoid putting weight back on before the festive season?
By keeping regular meals and setting pointers now, with an assessment to know where you stand.
What should I do with leftover sweets?
Give some away, keep a few and put the rest out of sight.
Is the assessment really free?
Yes. Just choose a day at the Bicester club.

Our advice on the topic
A hunger scale from 1 to 10 helps you tell real hunger from boredom or habit. Eat around 3 or 4, stop near 7, and meals start to keep you going longer.
To step off the yo-yo cycle, swap strict diets for habits you can keep at any weight, and give maintenance its own plan rather than treating it as the finish.
